‘Before I got into Nollywood, I was already doing business.I used to sell stuff, so I had my money to put into it, and my mum supported me with a loan. She collected her money back though, so there was no sentiment attached. I won’t say it was easy starting out because I spent about N3m in making my first movie, and that was quite a lot in 2005. I don’t actually get Executive Producers for my movies; I do that myself. Not like I don’t believe in going all out to source for funds, but it’s just not my thing. I had someone once who wanted to sponsor my movie, and we did that. But before the movie came out, they were already on my neck asking for their money. I had to return it to them after we finished filming; we had not even finished editing then. I told them I’ll give them their money back, but that they wouldn’t get any credit on the movie. Ever since, I only produce movies if it’s convenient for me.’

65 Year Old Landlord Rapes 7 Year Old Girl For Rituals | Victim’s Mother Speaks

A 65 year old landlord, in Akowonjo area of Lagos, identified as Mr. Ganiyu Sani, has allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl, Blessing. But this time, the parents of the victim believe he did it for ritual purposes.

The civil servant mother of the victim said on Monday, August 17, 2015, when she got back from work and was having dinner with her children, Blessings started to touch her crotch and complain of pain.

“I felt the part she was touching and asked what was wrong with her. I thought she was referring to her lower abdomen and believed it must be stomach ache. But she insisted that it was her private part.
“I asked if she fell down and hurt herself but she simply shook her head. I asked if someone hit her there while she was playing with other children in the neighbourhood, she said no. I started suspecting there was something bigger than what she was telling me.
“I pleaded with her to tell me what happened. That was when she told me about what Baba did. I could not contain my anger. I was shocked, angry and sad at the same time that such an old man could do such a thing to my daughter. My daughter had no reason to lie.”

Blessing’s father, a trader from Ebonyi State, works in the Eastern part of the country while his wife and the children live in Lagos because of his wife’s work.

He was in the East when he received a call from his wife about what had happened to their daughter. He told his wife to take a neighbour along to go and confront Baba, who denied everything immediately.

Baba Sani, a landlord who lives on renting out Danfo buses to commercial bus drivers, lives just two houses away from Blessing’s parents.

Blessing, an exuberant, fair complexioned girl, was not shy when PUNCH spoke with her about what Baba Sani did to her.
She explained that the old man usually crossed from his house to fetch water from a tap beside their house.
She said,

“On Friday, my mummy was not around and he came to fetch water (like he normally does). When he was passing in the front of our house, he asked me to follow him to come and collect biscuit.
“When I got to Baba’s house, he put off my shoes and carried me to his bed. He removed my pants and lay on my chest. When I was shouting, he said I should not shout, that he would give me biscuit and N20.
“When he finished, I saw blood coming out and Baba used a cloth to clean it. He said I should not tell anybody. He gave me biscuit and N20.”

Shockingly, without Blessing’s mother knowing, Baba Sani allegedly called the girl and raped her again the following day, a Saturday.
To dispel doubts about the girl’s allegation, she was asked to explain the location of Baba Sani’s bedroom inside the building and her description was found to be exact description when the publication eventually paid Baba Sani a visit.

Baba Sani was spoken to in company of the director of Esther Child Rights Foundation, Esther Ogwu, who the case was initially reported to by the girl’s parents.

The man, who walked with the gait of someone approaching senility, started off by saying Blessing’s mother was an acquaintance, even though the girl’s mother said she had never had reason to speak to him before.

Baba Sani said,

“The girl’s mother once approached me about a month ago to lend her N500. She sent her daughter to collect it and I gave it to them. Later, the girl with her younger sister came to my house that Friday to ask for money and I gave them N20.
“I did not do anything. I don’t know anything about what they have accused me of. God is my witness. I am just surprised about why I am the one the girl is accusing of such a thing.”

When asked how the girl could possibly know where his bedroom was in the house, the old man said he had no idea. Blessing’s mother said she had many other co-tenants and neighbours and said she couldn’t have imagined asking Baba Sani to lend her any money.

A test conducted at the Mirabel Sexual Assault Referral Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, confirmed that the girl was indeed raped as lacerations on her private part were consistent with sexual assault.
The case was reported at the Gowon Estate Police Division.

Woman Sentenced To Death For Trafficking Cocaine in Her Anus and Private Parts

30- year-old Chonmanee Laphathanawat from Thai province of Rayong was yesterday August 27th sentenced to death by a High Court after finding her guilty of trafficking in 689.10gm of cocaine in 70 capsules hidden in her anus and her private parts.

Laphathanawat, who was detained at the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas in February 2013, looked calm but dejected when Judicial Commissioner Nordin Hassan pronounced the verdict. She was charged with committing the offence from about 12.50am on Feb 13 to Feb 16, 2013 at the Penang General Hospital.

Her court-assigned defence counsel, K Thangeswaran told the court she was unaware the capsules contained cocaine, thinking they contained gems.

She said she was forced by some people to swallow the capsules in Brazil with other capsules forcibly inserted into her private parts. It was argued that she had not felt well and was asleep throughout her journey from Brazil to Malaysia via Barcelona, Spain and Singapore.

Chonmanee said she sought help from Penang airport police when she could no longer bear the pain in her abdomen. Deputy public prosecutor Amir Hamdzah Othman said Chonmanee failed to produce any witnesses or evidence to substantiate her claims.

Mr Nordin said the defence had failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt. He said Chonmanee failed to inform authorities in Barcelona or Singapore before her flight to Penang about her plight.

“She could also have checked the contents of the capsules in her private parts. Her ‘wilful blindness’ did not help her defence. I am satisfied that the prosecution has proven a prima facie case against her.”

The soldiers who carried out a search operation at Sandia, Kokakowa and Nyaleri villages suspected to be Boko Haram enclaves early today, discovered and destroyed another Improvised Explosives Device (IED) making factory at Miyati and Nyaleri villages, along Maiduguri-Bulabulin-Damboa road, in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria.

In addition, three terrorists were arrested comprising an “Ameer”, a high contact and a foot soldier.

Among items discovered apart of the IED making equipment, were a Peugeot pick up van, foodstuffs, 10-KVA Lister generator, gas cylinders, borehole, 9 bags of fertiliser, pumping machine, 3 bags of maize, 1 bag of millet and 13 empty AGO jerry cans, amongst others.

Tobias Strebel, the 35-year-old who spent more than $100,000 to look like Justin Bieber, has been found dead after he was reported missing on August 18, his manager confirmed on Wednesday.

“I am beyond devastated to hear the news about Tobias. Tobias was a kind, caring, and gentle soul that was dedicated and​ ​passionate to his music and career,” Hollywood manager Gina Rodriguez said. “For all the slings and arrows put​ ​forth against him, he always held his head high, treated everyone with​ ​respect, and had a warmth and glow to him that made anyone around him​ ​smile.”

A 24-year-old lady, now in police net, has explained while she stabbed her fiancé, Edet Ebong, to death with a kitchen knife.

The lady, identified as Blessing Edet, told our correspondent that the quarrel and subsequent fight which led to Ebong’s death was over s*x.

Blessing, residing at Ogombo village, Lekki in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, said Ebong got angry and pounced on her after she refused him s*x.

Recalling the fateful incident of August 18, she said: “We lay down to sleep and he started making advances on me for s*x. I told him I had a hectic day and was tired. He flared up and started beating me.

“He broke the standing mirror in the room and injured me above my left eye with the broken glass.

In defence, I ran to pick up the kitchen knife I had used while preparing ‘Indomie’ noodles for him.

I mistakenly stabbed him in the stomach.” Rather than look for ways to stem the blood flowing out from his stomach, Ebong allegedly continued to chase his lover round the room until he became too weak.

Blessing recounted: “After stabbing him, the fight continued. He went under the bed, brought out a cutlass and said he was going to kill me.

It was at this point that my younger brother who had been trying to stop us, but to no avail, rushed out to call neighbours. “My landlord heard the shout and rushed into our room.

He saw Edet bleeding while I was holding a knife. He alerted the police and Edet was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately he died two days after.”

The love birds had been engaged for the past 18 months and were at the verge of finalising their marriage plans when the tragedy occurred.

The late Ebong, an employee of Akwa Ibom State Transport Company (AKTC), had returned to home around 11pm on that fateful day.

Blessing, who described herself as an orphan, added: “Edet was my fiancé. We have been in a relationship for about 18 months now.

However, six months ago, he had trouble with his accommodation; so I told him to move in with me since we were already engaged.

“We have never had a misunderstanding before. But on that fateful day, I had just returned from the day’s business and was resting when he came in.

Edet came in drunk. He requested I prepare ‘Indomie’ noodles for him, which I did. “After eating, he asked me of the engagement ring he had given to me. I told him it was on the table.

This was before he started beating me. Sincerely, I stabbed unintentionally, even while he was in the hospital, I prayed he would survive. I don’t know what came over him that day. We had good plans for the future.

He was not just a lover but also a brother.” Blessing said that she started living alone four years ago, after her aunt told her that her presence in her home was making her husband uncomfortable.

The woman assisted Blessing and her kid brother to secure a room apartment. It was this home that Ebong later came to join her.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Patricia Amadin, said she was still trying to access the full details of the incident at press time.

But a resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “It was around 12am and 1am when they started fighting.

They were disturbing the peace of the entire village. I heard the argument.

It was about noddle which Blessing’s boyfriend, Obong, asked her to prepare. She prepared it without adding ‘Sardine’ which he had requested.

“The argument led to a fight. Blessing later stabbed Obong. She shouted ‘I will stab you with knife’.

And that was what she did. She ripped open the man’s stomach.” Another resident said: “The two friends are from Akwa Ibom State. But Blessing, who is a prostitute, rented a room in this village.

Then, she started bearing Amaka. She has no other work than to be sleeping with men and clubbing.”

The resident added that a few months ago, the two lovers had a quarrel which made Blessing to throw out Obong’s belongings from her room. According to her, it was when Blessin

Policeman Dies While Trying To Arrest Danfo Driver In Lagos

A police officer attached to Orile Division died in a motor accident opposite Fatgbems Filling Station, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway at about 9a.m., yesterday.

It was learned that the deceased, while attempting to apprehend a commercial bus (Danfo) driver, who was picking up passengers along the road, jumped into the moving bus with number plates KJA305XL.

The bus sped off, while trying to escape, and hit another car with number plates LND340DF. The sudden stop made the policeman, who was hanging on the bus, to fall.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that as the cop fell, a trailer ran over him, killing him instantly, as the commercial bus driver and his conductor took to their heels, abandoning the vehicle.

Vanguard gathered that the driver of the car, which the bus driver hit, was travelling for his father’s burial when he incident occurred.

Operatives of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA, and policemen from Trinity and Orile Divisions were there to ensure free flow of traffic as onlookers besieged the area.

A passenger’s tale

A passenger in the bus, Rotimi Baki, said: “The policeman jumped into the commercial bus while the bus was moving and picking passengers at the bus stop.

“All of a sudden, the commercial bus driver braked and the policeman fell off and a truck coming from behind hit him. The vehicle in front of the commercial bus had stopped. So the bus driver did same.”

One of the police officers, Sergeant Samuel, from Trinity Divisional Police Station harassed, dragged and seized Vanguard reporter’s mobile phone, accusing her of celebrating the death of his colleague.

All pleas to get back the phone fell on deaf ears as the officers kept shouting ‘I will deal with you. Who gave you authority to take pictures? You must come to our office’.

When you wear high heels of two inches or higher, your foot slides forward in the shoe, forcing the toes into an unnatural shape, and redistributing your weight incorrectly. The increased weight on your toes causes your body to tilt forward, so to compensate, you lean backwards which overarches the back, creating a posture that strains the knees, hips, and lower back. This change in position of the spine puts pressure on nerves in the back, that can cause sciatica, a condition where nerves become trapped, triggering pain and numbness down to the feet.

Wearing high heels can shorten the calf & back muscles, leading to pain and muscle spasms. Any time you wear shoes that restrict the natural shape of the foot, you’re at risk for pain. According to Dr. Nevins, many women who wear high heels often suffer from shortening of the Achilles tendon, as once the heel is pointed upwards, it tightens up. Stretching it again or switching to flats can be very painful and lead to plantar fasciitis. With repetitive wear, you can also develop unhealthy patterns that can persist even when you’re not wearing your heels.

Father Shot Thrice in Front Of His Family By Teenage Robbers

The Atlanta man who was shot when his home was invaded just as he and his wife had returned from a vacation said he remembers praying out loud, telling God he expected to meet him that day.
Mike Lash said he prayed.

“Lord, this is, I guess, the moment I will meet you today … if it is not your will, I am ready to stay,” he said.

Lash and his wife, Whitney, and their two children had just come home from vacation on August 16 when there was a knock at their door.

According to the account given by the Lashes to ABC News, Lash answered the door and saw two young men who told him they had just moved in down the street and experienced car trouble. The two men said they needed a jack, according to Lash.

“I had a feeling that it was an excuse and we were about to be robbed. Right about that moment i saw them pull the gun on Mike,” she said.

Whitney took the couple’s six-month-old, Lucy, ran out the back door and called 911, telling the operator in a whisper that they were being robbed at gunpoint.

Mike said he tried to block the door when he saw the gun. He was shot three times in the left leg as the two men – joined by two others – forced themselves inside the couple’s home and began taking items. The couple’s 2-year-old son, Everson, was taking a nap upstairs.

“It just went like a silent movie. They started walking in and I remember them coming in and out multiple times, just bringing stuff from our house,” Mike said.

One of the intruders had also chased Whitney.

“I heard footsteps of someone running and two more shots that were aimed at me and my daughter,” she said, adding that the intruder caught up to her and took her phone.

Whitney and Lucy were unharmed. Everson, too, was unharmed. He slept through the whole thing.

The Lashes helped police to generate a sketch that led to the Thursday arrest of 18-year-old Brandon Jerome Smith.

Police are still searching for Smith’s three alleged accomplices. Police are urging them to turn themselves in.

Mike is recovering from his wounds, and he and Whitney are grateful.

“We really do value every moment we have together now and are just so thankful to have our family be safe and we are all closer than ever,” she said.

The community has rallied around them.

“We are floored by how much support we have gotten … our friends in our community have been amazing,” Mike said. “It has made us all so much closer.”

Smith was charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery, an Atlanta Police Department spokesman said.
