U-17 W/CUP: My Team Is Not Built Around Kelechi And Victor – Amuneke

Nigeria U-17 coach, Emmanuel Amuneke has reacted to suggestions that his team is basically built around just two players- Captain Kelechi Nwakali and Victor Osimhen.

Both players proved to be key men during the CAF U17 championship in Niger Republic earlier in the year, and have continued to carry the team with their goals and impressive performances.

But Amuneke said there are other good players in his team and not just Nwakali and Osimhen.

“I don’t have to agree or disagree with people’s opinion on such matter but I think this team is not based only on Nwakali and Osimhen; we have other good players in the team” Amuneke argued.

“I don’t always like to talk about individual players; we should not forget that these are players just growing up and we should not put too much pressure on them. I want all the players to work for each other; play as a team and that is the only way we can get the best out of them.

“People easily mention Nwakali and Osimhen because they have been with us for a very long time but in the process of building this team, we have seen other good players. I just want all our players to go out there and do their best,” Amuneke stressed.

Both players are already living up to expectations, with Osimhen already in three goals, while Nwakali has scored one.

The team has qualified for the round of 16 of the competition having won their second game 5-1 against Chile.

Klopp Endures Miserable Anfield Debut

Jurgen Klopp endured a frustrating debut in the Anfield dugout as Liverpool were held to a disappointing 1-1 Europa League draw by 10-man Rubin Kazan on Thursday.

The German manager was forced to settle for a share of the spoils for the second consecutive game despite his side having an extra man for over half of the match.

Marko Devic gave Rubin a first-half lead with a brilliantly-taken goal, but Oleg Kuzmin’s red card appeared to have ended the Russians’ chances of picking up a positive result.

Emre Can smashed home an equaliser before half-time, but Liverpool were extremely poor in the second half as the returning Christian Benteke hit the post in one of their few clear-cut opportunities.

The Reds have now drawn all three of their Europa League games, but stay second in Group B after leaders Sion beat Bordeaux in the other game.

UEFA YOUTH LEAGUE: Again, Arsenal Defeat Bayern

Almost in a similar fashion, the Arsenal U-19 replicated the victory the senior team secured over the Bavarian giants during Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League, over the Bayern U-19 side on Wednesday.

Nigerian youngster, Alex Iwobi who was the hero of the day for Arsenal U-19 side as his two goals sealed a 2-0 victory against Bayern Munich’s U-19s team in a UEFA Youth League clash has described the victory as ‘convincing’.

After a goalless first half, Iwobi opened scoring in the 73rd minute, and made it 2-0 for Arsenal U-19s when he struck again in the 78th minute of the encounter.

“Positive result against BayernMunich19s onto the next one, a convincing win,” Iwobi posted on twitter.

The player however went into the referee’s book in the 81st minute after an altercation with Bayern’s Friedl.

Iwobi featured for the first team of Arsenal during their tour of Asia and the Emirates Cup which brought his massive potential to limelight before his inclusion in a League Cup squad that played against Tottenham last month.

He also made his debut for the Super Eagles in their international friendly games against DR Congo and Cameroon in Belgium this month.

Italian Millionaire Disagrees On The Use Of Ronaldo In A Movie About His Life

Cristiano Ronaldo will receive 20 million euros for not appearing in Martin Scorsese's new film The Manipulator.

The Real Madrid star had been set to make his Hollywood debut, but was dropped after Alessandro Proto, the man who the film is based on and who the Portuguese was due to play, vetoed his involvement.

In principle, the 30-year-old was expected to receive 10 million for being ditched at the last minute, but at the player's insistence, his lawyers have eventually doubled that figure.

Ronaldo's purchase of an apartment in New York last month was reportedly due to the fact he had landed this role.

"Ronaldo is a great player, but that doesn't mean he is the king of the world," Proto said.

"I don't want him in a film about my life. Martin Scorsese is in agreement with me. Cristiano Ronaldo is not going to be in the film.

"I am sorry if he doesn't feel valued, but in life you win some and you lose some. If I really have to give him 20 million euros, I will give it to him with my own hands."

Proto, an Italian millionaire, is reportedly the man who the books 50 Shades of Grey were based on.

Channing Tatum is now tipped to take on the lead role, with Alessandra Ambrosio playing the female lead.

Nigeria's Emenike quits international football

The 28-year-old said on his Instagram account he was calling time on his five-year career for the national side, telling fans he was "no longer a Super Eagles player".
"It has always being my pleasure to play and win for the team," he wrote.
"I am always proud of my successful years in the team and I am pleased to call it off at this point in order to avoid insults."
Emenike, who plays his club football for Al Ain of Dubai, is the second player to announce his retirement from Nigeria's senior squad this month.
Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama - Nigeria's most-capped player — said he was calling it quits after a much publicised row with coach Sunday Oliseh.
Oliseh was reportedly considering leaving out Emenike for next month's World Cup qualifier against Swaziland because he has not scored at international level for two years.
The former Spartak Moscow player, at Al Ain on loan from Turkish side Fenerbahce, has, however, featured in the first four matches since Oliseh took over from Steven Keshi.
Emenike made his international debut in a friendly against Sierra Leone in Lagos in February 2011 and was top scorer at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations that Nigeria won.
But he soon after hit a bad patch and his last goal for Nigeria was in October 2013, in a World Cup qualifying play-off against Ethiopia.
In all, he made 37 appearance for the Super Eagles, scoring nine times.

In Summary

  • His last goal for Nigeria was in October 2013, in a World Cup qualifying play-off against Ethiopia.
  • The 28-year-old said on his Instagram account he was calling time on his five-year career for the national side, telling fans he was "no longer a Super Eagles player".

ANTHONY MARTIAL : MAN UTD SIGN MONACO FORWARD FOR £36M

Manchester United have completed the £36m signing of Monaco forward Anthony Martial, making him the world’s most expensive teenage footballer.

The fee could rise to £58m.

France Under-21 international Martial, who scored eight goals in 31 Ligue 1 games last season, signed a four-year deal with the option for a fifth year.

The 19-year-old, who had been linked with Arsenal, becomes United’s third most expensive signing after Angel Di Maria (£59.7m) and Juan Mata (£37.1m).

He was allowed to leave the France squad on Monday for a medical with Louis van Gaal’s side, who have given him the number nine shirt.

Monaco signed Martial for £4.4m two years ago from Lyon, who will receive about £7.35m as a result of a sell-on clause.

Conditions that would increase the fee include Martial winning the Ballon d’Or award for the world’s top footballer.
The previous world record transfer fee for a teenager was £27m, whichUnited paid for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw last summer and Paris St-Germain spent on Roma centre-back Marquinhos in 2013.

His signing came as Premier League spending passed £850m for the first time in a transfer window.

Scholes Slams Man UTD: Title Winners? You’ve Got To Beat Teams Like Newcastle

The ex-Red Devil was far from impressed after watching his former side fail to beat the Magpies at Old Trafford and questioned the team’s title tilt after the draw
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has slammed Louis van Gaal’s side for failing to beat Newcastle on Saturday.
Aleksandar Mitrovic struck the woodwork with a header in the first-half and substitute Florian Thauvin almost snatted all three points for the visitors in the dying moments but both sides were forced to share the points.
The Red Devils dominated their opponents in possession and chances but despite back to back victories in the opening weeks of the Premier League, Scholes is unconvinced by United’s title chances.
“There’s a real lack of excitement – a lack of quality, more than anything,” he told BT Sport.
“It’s okay having pace on the pitch, which we don’t tend to have, but a real sense of quality [is lacking] and a bit of urgency.
“Newcastle at home, you should be beating them. If you’re going to win the league, you need to be winning these types of games.”
Wayne Rooney continued his domestic goal drought, having not scored in the league since April, and retired midfielder Scholes believes Louis Van Gaal’s team didn’t deserve victory.
“I just don’t think they did enough,” the 40-year-old added.
“You have to give Tim Krul special credit for a great save from [Javier Hernandez but], really, did they have a lot to defend against? I don’t think so.”

Manchester United 3 vs 1 Club Brugge (Champions League Play Off Video Highlights)

The summer signing came to the fore with two stunning goals as Louis van Gaal’s side came from behind to take a strong lead to Belgium for the play-off second leg Memphis Decay produced a stunning performance as Manchester United beat Club Brugge in the first leg of their Champions League play-off.

The visitors took a shock lead after just eight minutes from Michael Carrick diverted Victor Vazquez’s free kick into his own net, but neat footwork from Memphis levelled matters soon after with his first goal for the club. The summer signing was the standout for United throughout and notched his second just before half-time, cutting in from the left and curling a fine effort past Sebastien Bruzzese to give his side the lead.
