Mother arrested for leaving her 4 young kids home alone while she vacationed in Germany

An Iowa mother’s European vacation came to an abrupt end.

Erin Lee Macke was arrested Thursday by Johnston police for allegedly leaving her four young children home alone while she traveled to Germany for an 11-day vacation.

According to a press release, police were called to Macke’s home on Sept. 21 following a report that children had been left without adult supervision.

When cops arrived, they found Macke’s 12-year-old twins, a 6-year-old and a 7-year-old home alone.Police said the day before they were called, the 30-year-old mother had left the country to go to Germany and wasn’t expected to come back until Oct. 1.

Investigators confirmed that Macke had made no arrangements to provide adult supervision or care for the children while she was away,” the department said.

The Iowa Department of Human Services came to get the children, while police called Macke and ordered her to return home from Germany,The Mailonline reports.

Police said Macke arrived back in the U.S. on Thursday and was arrested for four counts of child endangerment and one count of making a firearm available to a person under the age of 21.

She’s currently at the Polk County Jail on $9,000 bond according to jail records. Her children are in the care of extended family members.
