Wife of Niger State Governor, ( Abubakar lolo ) Dr. Amina Abubakar has declared her intention to establish a Breast Cancer screening center in each of the 274 wards of the state ( Nicer state) with a view for every woman to be screened free.
Dr. Amina Abubakar stated this at the awareness campaign on breast cancer initiated by her in conjunction with 5th Chucker Polo Country Club, Kaduna held at the National Health Insurance Scheme Clinic, Minna.
While describing Breast Cancer as one of the deadliest disease responsible for the death of women in Nigeria, Dr. Amina Abubakar said the screening was necessary for the early detection of the ailment and effective treatment.
She stated that the screening exercise that was conducted was the first step in the direction to reduce the alarming rate of the Breast Cancer in the state and the country at large.
According to her, the campaign was aimed at enlightening women that have little or no knowledge about the disease.
In his lecture at the occasion, Dr. Femi Olaleye of the Optimal Care Foundation enumerated some of the high risk factors of Breast Cancer to include family heritage, smoking cigarette and lack of regular testing.
He disclosed that the only way to prevent the disease was to cultivate the habit of self-examination and by taking note of abnormal growth on the breast.
Representative of the Governor and Head of Service, Alhaji Mohammed Maude Lapai said that creating awareness on breast cancer was the duty of all adding that government would greatly assist Dr. Amina Abubakar in her objective of combating Breast Cancer in the state.
