A mother in Canada has drugged her daughter with sleeping pills after which she set her body on fire in what the judge labelled the “ultimate senseless betrayal”.
Laura Coward pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charge of her daughter, Amber Lucius in a Calgary courtroom in February.
She has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance at parole for 18 years, according to Metro UK.
Coward was arrested in Alberta two days after the young girl was reported missing in August 2014.
The report said Coward had given the girl a toxic but non-lethal dose of a prescription sleeping medication, but thought she was dead and put Amber in the truck and set it on fire.
Coward begged the girl’s father and her own family and friends to forgive her at her sentencing hearing last week.
