The police in Borno State have arrested a syndicate of suspected fake US dollars fraudsters who disguised as having magic power to defraud people of their monies and other valuables.
Police Commissioner, Damian Chukwu, while parading the suspects in Maiduguri, on Wednesday, said the suspected fraudsters were apprehended after they duped a woman of her N2 million and other valuables.
According to him, “They gave the victims 16 bundles of plain sheets cut to US dollar size wrapped with 32 pieces of counterfeit 100 US dollar notes, 60 pieces of counterfeit 100 US dollar more,” he disclosed.
Already two of the syndicate members are in police net while the third suspect is at large, he said
The Commissioner said the suspects dishonestly obtained some valuables from the woman including some clothing worth N57,000, telephone handset valued at N50,000 and Gold earrings worth N20,000. He said the suspects admitted to have hypnotized the victims, adding that they have made usuful statement to help in the investigations.
Also arrested, according to CP Chukwu, were suspected criminals “terrorising bank customers” in Maiduguri and its environs. The gang reportedly accosted a man from bank and trailed him to his destination in the metopolis where they broke the victim’s car and took away the sum of N700, 000.
“On the receipt OF the report, I ordered the FSARS operatives to trail and arrest the culprits. The operation paid off when the vehicles and one of the occupants was sighted on discovery that the game was up, the suspect recklessly speeded off causing damages to many vehicles on the highway,” he said, adding that he was subsequently arrested by his men.
Others arrested include suspected tricycles thieves, vandals of national electricity equipment, car thrives among others. The CP appealed to residents to be vigilant and security conscious
