Speed limiting device: FRSC begins special enforcement operation in Bayelsa

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), in Bayelsa State, has embarked on special operation as part of strategies to ensure full compliance with the installation of Speed Limiting Device by commercial drivers.

State Sector Commander, Mr Wobin Gora, who stated this in an interview, on Tuesday, in Yenagoa, reiterated the corps commitment to safety on the highway.

Gora said that all officers of the corps in the state were participating in the operation aimed at arresting commercial drivers, who failed to install the device.

“Our target is the East-West road axis because that is where you can get a quite number of commercial vehicles.

“All our patrol teams are fully engaged along the major roads including the Tombia roundabout.

“This is part of our strategies to track down those who are still adamant in installing the device,” he said.

On compliance, the FRSC commander said it was encouraging and called on all commercial drivers to install the device.

As at February 26, the FRSC in Bayelsa State said it had checked 667 vehicles out of which 290 vehicles were booked, while 377 vehicles had installed the device.

Analysing the figure, Gora explained that the command had achieved 57 per cent compliance while 43 per cent were yet to install it on their vehicles.

He urged the commercial drivers in the state to install the device as the corps would no longer allow any commercial driver arrested to go unpunished.

“Install the device, to control speed, save lives and reduce the rate of fatality on the roads because the major cause of crashes is speed,” he advised. (NAN)
