DSS Raids PenCom Office In Abuja As Sacked Director General Goes Into Hiding

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Saturday raided the Abuja head office of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).

The purpose of the raid has not been clearly revealed but it was gathered that the operation may not be unconnected with the allegDSS,pencom office,Mrs Chinelo Anohu-Amazued refusal of sacked director-general, Mrs Chinelo Anohu-Amazu to hand over the reins.

President Buhari had last week, relieved Mrs Anohu-Amazu of her position and appointed Mr Dikko Aliyu Abdulrahman as her replacement. The latter’s appointment is however subject to senate confirmation.

The president had also at the same time named Chevrolet Volt inventor, Mr Jelani Aliyu as the director-general of the Nigerian Automotive Design and Development Council aside 21 other heads of various government agencies.

A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Bolaji Adebiyi, had said that the appointments were to take immediate effect.

In such instances, sacked public officials are expected to hand over to the next ranking officials at their agencies pending the resumption of the newly appointed officials.

There were however indications that Mrs Anohu-Amazu was still passing out instructions at the PenCom office as of Friday, a week after she had been sacked.

The sacked DG evaded arrest on Saturday by going into hiding as DSS operatives arrived the pension agency, reports Punch. The DSS has however summoned the erstwhile PenCom boss to appear at its headquarters on Monday for an interaction.

It will also be recalled that the federal government recently released the sum of N54 billion to PenCom to clear pension arrears left unpaid by the past administration. It remains to be seen if Saturday’s raid has anything to do with the management of the funds.
