Emir Of Kano Debunks Corruption Allegations

Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi II, on Monday, reacted to raging allegations of mismanagement of funds.

Speaking through the Kano State Emirate Council, the traditional ruler described as untrue claims that he had spent N6 billion of the emirate’s fund since he assumed office.

The senior council official in charge of finance who is also the Walin Kano, Bashir Wali, told newsmen that the emirate has only spent N3.4 billion since Emir Sanusi ascended the stool in June 2014.

According to Premium Times, Mr Wali provided some details of the expenditure and explained that Emir Sanusi inherited N2.9 billion (exactly N2.895,165,43.77) and not N4 billion as stated in some media reports.

Corruption allegations against the Emir surfaced shortly after he criticised northern leaders for their alleged backwardness.

A number of religious and political leaders in the region immediately condemned the Emir’s statement.

Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari accused Emir Sanusi of hypocrisy and living a life of luxury at the expense of poor members of the community who he claimed to be fighting for.
