Reports say a truck crushed four persons today- a young lady, a pregnant woman, as well as her two children. This incident occurred along Onitsha-Owerri Expressway as the victims were trying to cross the busy express road.
According to a Facebook user identified as Ferdinand Izuchukwu Ezulike, the accident was caused by a group of Nigerian Policemen who were allegedly on guard at the Dangote Cement Depot located along the Onitsha-Owerri road.
Izuchukwu said the policemen were standing on the expressway, purportedly extorting money from the motorists and tricyclists (keke riders). In the process of trying to extort money from a particular keke rider who stepped on his brakes suddenly, a truck rammed into the tricycle from behind, crushing a young lady, a pregnant woman and her two children who were crossing to the other side of the road.
A crowd of people gathered shortly, and they became so angry that they set the Dangote Cement Depot (where the officers were stationed) on fire.

This is so gruesome!
Stories of deaths on our federal highways abound. On May 1, 2017, we reported that four people died, while 12 others were injured in ghastly accident after a Toyota bus burst into flames along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Today’s incident is however doubly sad as it was caused by the unruly act of extortion by police officers.
As we send our condolences to the deceased families and urge the angry mob to calm down, we also hope investigations would be made into the group of policemen alleged to be the cause of the gruesome accident.
