The House of Representatives has endorsed the amendment of the 1999 Constitution.
There was a rowdy session in the House ahead of the commencement of voting, but an order was restored and voting commenced around midday.
One of the major clauses voted on was the devolution of powers to states, which got majority support with 210 lawmakers voting yes, but fell short of the 240 required to pass.
Also, bill to entitle married women to claim the indigeneship of the state of their husband failed
Another bill adopted was the provision that all former heads of the National Assembly (the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives) be part of the council of state.
They also adopted a provision that all impeached former presidents and governors should not be included in the council of state.
The lawmakers unanimously adopted a bill seeking to reduce the period which the president or governor can authorize withdrawals from the consolidated account without a budget.
They also voted on financial autonomy of state legislators and the extension of time given to INEC to conduct bye-elections and provide grounds for de-registration of political parties.
