Kendrick Lamar is no stranger to success in music, but his critically acclaimed album DAMN. reaching double platinum status in such a short amount of time has taken his excellence to a new level.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) have awarded the star a Double Platinum plaque for the LP. In a testament to the power of the streaming age, the feat is for the movement of 2 million sales-plus-streaming units. As of this month, the pure sales tally for the set is 690,000.
Kenny took to Instagram to thank his fans. “These murals forever belong to my fans. You’ve always taken my words above and beyond. Around the world and back again. With trust. I am forever grateful. 2x,” he wrote.
DAMN. is thriving on the Billboard 200, as well. This week, it sits at No. 2 on the JAY-Z-led chart after selling 56,000 equivalent album units in its 14th week of availability.
