Terry Tha Rapman Says Rap Is Dead In Nigeria, What Do You Guys Think?

Few hours back, rapper, Yung6ix, caused a stir on social media with his views on rap music in Nigeria. He wrote:

‘When I wanna listen to African rap I play Yung6ix and SA rappers wtf is going on with the Nigerian Rappers ? Wake up’.

In that same spirit,  LIB, reached out to a few rappers in the country, to share their thoughts on the state of rap in Nigeria and rapper Terry Tha Rapman, nothing only have so much to say also shares same sentiments with Yung6ix.

In his words:

I kinda get where he’s coming from. I’ve been stressing this for long, when I said ‘rap is dead’ in Nigeria I didn’t mean nobody is rapping. I meant we (being the fans, media and promoters) stopped supporting rap music as it should be at a point‘.

He continued:

‘Now would you blame rappers for fine tuning their style? Rappers hardly get the airplay/support as our pop counterparts so after years we started adapting. I still believe there’s hope. We are far from the days of Trybesmen, 2shotz, Ruggedman, Modenine and when MI dropped Talk About It and MI2. We need more rap concerts to promote hip-hop culture. The few ones I’ve been to were not encouraging’.

So guys, what do you think, is rap really dead in Nigeria?

Davido, is indeed a man for the people.

Not one to see such and let it slide, Davido, stopped his performance and single handedly dragged the officer off the stage, to privately deal with him. Once done, he reappeared on stage, and continued with the business of the night, entertaining his loyal fans.

What Rubbish!! Dede Mabiaku Storms Out During Radio Interview [Video]

Veteran entertainer Dede Mabiaku on Monday stormed out an interview on Lagos Talks FM 93.1 after the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Femi Adesina, told him to ‘shut up’ during an argument.

A video of the incident, which has now gone viral, shows Adesina asking Nigerians to be patient and allow Buhari to carry out his mandate.

According to Punch, when  the presenter sought the views of Mabiaku, who had argued that Nigerians had not seen the change they voted for, the entertainer stressed that his views were unimportant since Adesina had asked him to shut up.

“Why do you want to hear me when he (Adesina) had the audacity to tell me to shut up?” he asked.
After insisting that Adesina had no right to use such language just because he works for the government, the annoyed artiste walked out of the studio with the spokesman to the President laughing.

Road Safety to start checking for Speed Limiters starting February

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it is set for full enforcement of the installation of the Speed Limiting Device on commercial vehicles scheduled to begin nationwide on Wednesday, February 1.

Spokesman of the corps, Mr Bisi Kazeem, told newsmen on Tuesday, January 31, in Abuja that sector and field commands of the agency had been fully mobilised for the exercise.

Kazeem said that the Army, Police, Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies had been put on standby to provide security support.

According to him, a portal of Speed Limiting Device (SLD) has been created and is operational, and that a short code to confirm the installation of SLD is active.

He also said that Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) had been dispatched with a directive that copies be shared to security agencies within the commands’ areas of jurisdiction.

“A template for daily report has also be designed and forwarded to commands. Booking sheets with Failure to Install Speed Limiting Device (FSLD) have been distributed to field commands.

“To ensure seriousness of purpose, sector commanders have been advised to start with joint patrols with unit commands to have more personnel and create impact for the whole of February.

“Also, commands are to hold mobile court sittings at the onset, and where mobile courts are likely to slow down enforcement, such commands should go ahead without it.

“We have created a situation room to monitor and collate report on daily basis and test-run for the clampdown,’’ the FRSC spokesman said.

He said that defaulters would either pay a fine of N3,000 or have their vehicles impounded, to be released after installing the device.

He explained that the decision to begin with commercial vehicles was informed by their high rate of involvement in road accidents across the country.

“There is an offence known as Failure to Install Speed Limiting Device (FSLD ) which is already embedded in our fine tickets and the fine is N3,000, but it is discretional.

“You may decide to book and allow to go without impounding the vehicle. In some situations you take such a person to mobile courts.

“The court will then decide the fine. It may be lower than the N3,000; it may be higher, depending on the situation.

“What we are trying to do is to register that it has started. It is not necessarily impounding all vehicles in Nigeria in one swoop, thereby making life difficult for road users, no.

“It is a gradual thing that we are starting all over Nigeria, and that is to say it is no longer advisory.

“You either pay fines, or be taken to mobile court to be charged or in extreme situation, you are asked to come and install before your vehicle is released to you after impoundment,’’ Kazeem said.

Enforcement of the SLD installation had been postponed thrice since September 1, 2015, following appeals from stakeholders.

Kazeem said that the need to begin with commercial vehicles could not be over-emphasised owing to their high rate of involvement in road accidents across the country.

Citing FRSC statistics, the FRSC spokesman said that commercial vehicles accounted for over 50 per cent of the total number of vehicles involved in road accidents in the country.

He explained that vendors of the device had been selected through a screening process by an inter-agency technical committee.

Membership of the committee, according to him, was drawn from the FRSC, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).

African countries will benefit from Morocco-Nigeria Trans Sahara pipeline

Morocco’s monarch, King Mohammed VI, on Tuesday said African countries would benefit from the Morocco-Nigeria joint Trans Sahara pipeline project.

Mohammed, who stated in his address to the 28th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, also pledged to avail his country’s vast mineral resources to the benefit of the continent.

He announced that Rabat was set to sign bilateral agreements with Ethiopia and Nigeria for the building of a fertilizer plant to boost agriculture production in Morocco.

The monarch’s attendance at the summit followed Monday’s re-admission of Morocco into AU after months of intensive lobbying.

Morocco pulled out of the union in 1984 in protest against the then Organisation of African Union’s (OAU) recognition of Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), which it claimed was under its territory.

Mohammed announced that Rabat would immediately embark on signing bilateral agreements with members of the African Union (AU) to improve investments and trade.

He said his country would benefit Africa through investments and commercialization of its minerals and gas.

He disclosed that Morocco and Nigeria had developed a new regional gas pipeline connecting both countries, taking gas resources of Nigeria to Morocco, its neighbours and Europe.

The Trans-African Pipeline project will be supported through a new collaboration between Ithmar Capital, the Moroccan sovereign wealth fund, and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).

“We will sign bilateral and multilateral agreements with African countries,” Mohammed said.

“It is time Africa’s wealth benefited Africans. Africa has potential, given its young leaders who are committed to democracy,” the king said, adding that Morocco, though not in AU, but never disconnected from its commission.

On the country’s return to AU, he said “this is a great day for people and government of Morocco as we come back to the Union after many years’’, adding that the country had a link that bound it to the rest of Africa.

“Africa is indispensable to Morocco and so Morocco is indispensable to Africa. We are here in great happiness. I miss you all,” the king said while receiving a standing ovation from the leaders.

He said that the country’s re-entry into the AU was with a new capacity to create strong bilateral cooperation with member countries in the field of energy and fertilizer development.

For 33 years since Morocco quit the AU in protest over its recognition of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Morocco’s King has been sending written goodwill messages to African leaders.

I Don’t Care If He Is Married, I Love Him – Actress Professes Love For Veteran Act, Pete Edochie

In her words:

“Since I was a child I have been crushing ‎on him. I still look forward to seeing myself in the arms of Pete Edochie. I don’t mind the fact that he is married; he is my dream husband. I like the way he talks, walks and acts. .

Nobody else can substitute him in my life right now. Not even his younger version, Yul Edochie; he doesn’t entice me. All I want is Pete and not his sons or look alike! I love him regardless of his age. Older men make good husbands. .

Age is just a number. If I love a 70-year old man, I don’t see why I shouldn’t marry him. I don’t have time for small boys still running around and wearing studs in their ears with lots of chains hanging around their necks.”

I haven’t seen 2Face in years-Senator Akpabio denies sponsoring nationwide protests

Former Akwa Ibom state governor and current senator, Godswill Akpabio has denied rumours that he is secretly sponsoring 2Face Idibia’s planned nationwide protest..A statement reads

The attention of the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio has been drawn to a story circulating in the internet, alleging that the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State is the sponsor of the proposed nationwide protest to be led by 2 Face Idibia, to demand answers from the government over different issues in the country. .

.
It is laughable that the only link between the music star, 2 Face and Senator Akpabio which the authors of the mischievous story belabour to establish is that “in 2013, 2Face and his wife, Annie Macaulay were gifted (sic) two brand new Prado SUVs by this former governor as their wedding gift which they amiably (sic) accepted.” .
.
For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that Senator Akpabio knows nothing about the planned protest neither is he the sponsor. In fact, Senator Akpabio has had no contact whatsoever with 2Face for many years.
According to the information being circulated the organizers of the planned protest have stated clearly that their protest is: “a call for nationwide protests as we say no to the Executive, no to legislatures, no to judiciary.” Is it not idiotic and senseless for anyone to imagine that Senator Akpabio will sponsor a protest against the same arm of government that he is serving as a leader.
As the Minority Leader, Senator Akpabio has consistently maintained that Nigerians should put aside their differences and support every effort that will pull the country out of the present recession. Much as he believes in the right of every Nigerian to express himself, he does not think that mass protest is the solution.
The mischievous attempt to drag the name of Senator Akpabio into the planned protest should be discountenanced as the handiwork of political jobbers.

Nigeria can produce 3 million barrels of crude per day, says Petroleum Minister

(ABUJA)

The Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, said that Nigeria is capable of producing three million barrels of crude oil per day from the Niger Delta region.

Kachikwu stated this at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs on Tuesday, January 31, in Abuja.

Apart from the Niger Delta Ministry, the convener, the meeting was also attended by officials from the, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCD & MB), among others.

The minister said the insecurity in the region had been undermining the nation’s capacity to realise its potential in oil production.

“It is important we continue to sustain the institutional engagement and negotiations which are key to the development of the region.

“Our target is zero militancy by the middle of 2017, and an incident reduction in the region by 90 per cent by 2018.

“We must resolve current militancy problems and bring back oil production to 2.2 million barrels per day,” he said.

He lamented that over $40 billion had been spent in 12 years and there was no infrastructure on ground to justify the huge expenditure profile.

Kachikwu said that a lot would have been achieved if there were zeal to collaborate in such a manner.

Kachikwu urged the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and other partners to commence immediate action in this regard.

Kachikwu said there was need to create stability incentive schemes, jobs and investment opportunities, so that the government would look at cross border investments to strengthen the region.

The minister said the government was introducing a joint account with oil companies to foster transparency in cash calls and ensure that inflows were clearly understood by all.

“We are targeting 30 per cent cost savings, which we can link to transparency.

“What is most important is not the amount of the fund; it’s the conceptualization of that funding.

“Governors will have to come together as a regional
block to look at cross-state investments in roads, railways, town facilities or specialist hospitals.

“We are going to pool in energy and ensure we look at cross border investments to strengthen the region” he said.

Kachikwu said government was also looking at the amnesty programme to absorb some of the trained ex-agitators in the areas of coastal patrol and Niger Delta paramilitary type organisations.

The Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), (retired) Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh, in his remarks reaffirmed the readiness and determination of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to find a permanent solution to the problems of the region.

Boroh, who doubles as the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, said that the current administration deserved cooperation and support for appreciating the environmental challenges of the region.

He disclosed that the ex-militants in the region were trained on fish farming, snail farming etc by the National Biotechnology Resources Centre, as parts of the Federal Government’s efforts to gainfully engage them in responsible living.

Boko Haram turns to social media, Government says

(ABUJA)

The Federal Government on Tuesday, January 31, said that the decimated Boko Haram terror group had refocused its resources to a media and propaganda campaign against the nation.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, urged Nigerians, and the media in particular, to unite against terrorism by denying Boko Haram platforms to spread its ideology.

Mohammed said the decimated group had “shifted its strategy toward dominating the media space, propagating a perverted version of Shariah law and giving the impression that it is still holding territory.’’

He said the propaganda strategy was discovered from materials left behind by the terrorists after they were routed from their last stronghold in Sambisa.

“The materials include documents, phones and computers that contained detailed information on the Boko Haram media and propaganda strategy.

“An analysis of the materials reveals Boko Haram’s training in videography as well as how they sought and received training from other terrorists groups on video recording and manipulation.

“The documents, written in Arabic, also outlined the media strategy that Boko Haram Commanders should employ and how the surviving members should ensure the propagation of the Boko Haram doctrine using Social Media,’’ he said.

The Minister said the recovered materials confirmed the announcement of a new media wing called ”Wadi Baya” (Clear Speech) by Boko Haram in an audio released by the group on January 17, following its routing from Sambisa.

Mohammed said that the media and public should be careful about unwittingly providing the terrorists with the oxygen of publicity that they desperately needed.

I will no longer be quiet- 2Face Idibia insists the protests will hold and says it’s not personal

Despite criticism in some quarters, 2Face Idibia took to Facebook live this afternoon to give more details on the planned nationwide protest slated for February 6,2017.Read excerpts from his 11 minute long address

I am just a musician with a point of view and the ear of my fans.Since the idea of a nationwide march was first mentioned, the need for urgent solutions to the challenges facing Nigerians has become very clear. The people have hoped for a better Nigeria since 1999 but things are not getting any better for the majority.  We are still where we are – poor and desperate. I will be no longer be quiet.
I want to thank EiE, The 2face Foundation, numerous colleagues and countless fellow Nigerians for stepping up to partner with me. I am just a musician with a point of view and the ear of my fans.
I have dedicated my time and resources to peace building, voter education towards peaceful elections and youth engagement in governance in Nigeria. This time around, my partners, colleagues and I have come together to present a platform for real Nigerians to communicate their real pains to government at all levels in a peaceful and articulate manner with a view to getting lasting solutions to our problems.
This march is about demanding that all saboteurs of good government policies should hands off.

It is not a platform for politicians of any party to manipulate. I know you will still spin it but for one second leave your battles aside and just listen to people without trying to score cheap political points against one another. It is not a point scoring exercise. It is certainly not personal.
It is not an organized labour platform. With all due respect to our comrades who have done much for Nigeria, this march is for the unrepresented.
It is not a ‘my religion or tribe is better than yours’ matter. All our blood is red.
I, Innocent Idibia, am a living example of a Nigerian who owes their success to Nigerians of every tribe and religion. None ask what religion or tribe I am before supporting me. I am grateful.

On Monday, February 6, meet me at the National Stadium at 8AM and we’ll walk to the National Theatre – 2 national icons that epitomize our decline – as we state clearly and peacefully that #IStandWithNigeria and Nigeria must work for all of us and all of us must work for Nigeria.
