No fewer than 23 retired police officers have matched to the headquarters of the Jigawa State Police Command demanding for explanation on what causes the delay in settling their retirement benefits after several months of their retirement.
Speaking to the Daily Sun, one of the retired officers, Inspector Abubakar Mohammed (rtd), said 18 months after he left service, he is yet to receive neither gratuity, nor pensions.
“As I speak to you, I found it extremely difficult to feed myself and my family , most of my kids were sent away from schools , while my landlord is on the verge of ejecting me from his house as I couldn’t pay my rent which has since been overdue.”
Another retiree, Malam Musa Ibrahim said he retired as a spy officer for the Nigerian Police Force 18 months ago as a corpral stated that he has at the moment could not feed his 18 children.
Sixty-year-old Musa who revealed that his sight is failing him due to persistent crying and poverty that have ravaged him adding that, “after several years of committed service to the country today I’ve turned to begging on the streets before I could feed my family”, he declared.
When contacted, the Command’s Spokesman , ASP Abdul Jinjiri, empathised with the retirees, assuring them that the Commissioner of Police will forward their grievance with utmost dispatch to the appropriate quarters for prompt action.
