Jos Muslim community endorse Lalong for 2nd term

The Muslim community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State has endorsed Governor Simon Lalong for a second term in office.

Their move, they claim, was following the governor’s pragmatic efforts at reopening slum areas in the state capital.

Former Deputy Speaker and member representing Jos North/North in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Baba Hassan, who spoke on behalf of the Muslim community, during the official handing over of Ibrahim Katsina- burnt Jos Main Market road to the contractor, said Muslims in Jos has suffered marginalisation in the hands of successive governments.

His words, “I have been in the House of Assembly for 12 years but only now that I have been able to influence a contract to my constituency. Governor Lalong is fulfilling his campaign promises and the community has decided to endorsed him for 2019.

“Presently, we believe that those seeking to contest governorship election in 2019 in the state are wasting their time because we have been deceived in the past by successive government who make empty promises but now we have confident in Lalong for awarding contract for three roads in Muslim community.”

Chairman of Jasawa Community Development Association, Alhaji Shehu Masalla, called on the Muslim youths to give Governor Lalong maximum support in the area of sustained security and ensure that he is return to office in 2019 in the interest of peace in the state.

Masalla said roads contracts that were abandoned by Lalong predecessor, particularly slum areas in Muslims community in the state have been awarded and work is ongoing.

Commissioner of Urban Development, Hon. Samuel Galadima said Lalong decided to award contracts to open slum areas in the state in fulfillment of his campaign promises.

He noted that a contract for the construction of 6.5 kilometre road in Angwan Rogo was awarded at N1.6 billion, 6.7 kilometre road at Ibrahim Katsina-Main Market road at N1.75 billion, Tudun Wada-Kabong Satelite Market was awarded at N1.65 billion and Chuwel Nyap road at N1.6 billion.

He urged the contractors to execute the contracts according to specification and complete within 12 months or government will revoke the contracts.
