A mob in Kuruman, Northern Cape, South Africa on Friday beat up two Nigerians, Ernest Ughakwesili, 42, and Chimezie Oranusi, 26, accused of selling drugs to students in the area.
A Nigerian based in South Africa, Ugo Ugbaje, who shared the pictures of the brutalised victims on Facebook, said they would have been killed had the police not intervened.
Ugbaje wrote: “May God save us in this country, South Africa. Two Nigerian guys were almost murdered yesterday (Friday) in Kuruman Northern Cape.
“If not for the police, their lives would have been history by now.”
Oageng Mol Louw, a South African, said the mob was merely protecting their children’s future.
“There is no racism in this matter. Protecting our kids and their future is important.
“You guys know how dangerous those stuffs are, yet you’re selling them to school kids. Now that’s heartless,” he said.
The attack comes two days after two Nigerians were shot dead in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
Last year a wave of xenophobic attacks on African immigrants in South African left many injured or dead. Supporters of the attack blamed the immigrants for putting young girls in s3x slavery and for selling dangerous drugs to kids.
