Air Peace aborts Lagos – Abuja flight due to faulty tyres

A Lagos – Abuja bound Air Peace flight  developed fault on one of its tyres during take-off forcing the pilot to abort the flight, but there was no harm to either passengers or crew. The incident however had created fear and panic at the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos as it was initially suspected that the three tryes of the Boeing 737 aircraft had gone burst.
A statement by Air Peace spokesman, Mr. Chris Iwarah however said it was a case of air leakage in one of the tryes. “At about 11am today, our Lagos-Abuja flight aborted takeoff at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos when the pilot-in-command suspected that there was an issue with one of the tyres of the aircraft,” said Iwarah.
“Although it was initially suspected to be a case of burst tyre, our Engineering Department later inspected the aircraft and confirmed that one of the tyres got deflated. The issue has since been addressed . “There was no question of air return as our flight crew noticed the development much before takeoff. Because of the premium we place on safety, our pilots are under a duty to call for checks when they suspect any fault however basic it may be. That was what happened in this case. Passengers were all calm, as it was not a life-threatening incident ” Iwarah added. He explained that passengers on board were transferred to another aircraft to ensure they did not miss their appointments.‎ A passenger who was on the flight and wouldn’t want to be named however told Daily Sun that anxiety reigned inside the aircraft amongsts passengers during the incident and that he missed is afternoon engagement in Abuja as the airline delayed in transferring them unto another flight.
