I remain traditional ruler of Mahin kingdom, deposed monarch insists

Deposed paramount ruler of Mahin kingdom, in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Lawrence Omowole, says he remains the traditional head of the kingdom, adding that the kingmakers who announced his dethronement lacked the power to depose him.

Omowole, who described his purported dethronement as a ‘mischievous act of some individuals’, stressed that only the state government has the constitutional right to depose him.

The embattled monarch said since his appointment was made by the state government after recommendation by the kingmakers, it was the government, and not the kingmakers, that could depose him.

Recall that four of the five kingmakers in Mahin kingdom had, on Wednesday, pronounced that Omowole had been deposed for allegedly installing a strange person as a traditional ruler in the kingdom.

But, Omowole denied the allegation, saying those who signed the letter of his deposition were fake kingmakers.

He noted that they were only on a mission to blackmail his throne, adding that the people of the town were solidly behind him.

Omowole insisted that no kingmaker has the power to remove him except his people, and insisting that his people were strongly behind him.
