The International Funds for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has earmarked over N75 million as support to Jigawa State farmers for the production of Rice and Maize in the dry season.
The support would cover750 hectres of dry season farming at 17 identified Fadama areas in the state.
This was disclosed, on Monday, by the State Programme Officer ( SPO), Malam Umar Abubakar Danzomo, while briefing newsmen in Dutse, the state capital.
He said “IFAD has set aside N75 million to support farmers with agricultural facilities in the project”.
Danzomo explained that the project would strictly pay attention to small scale farmers who are the most vulnerable and came under registered groups for easy dealings”.
According to him “the project is a supplementary effort to the state’s government cluster farming system in Rice and Maize productions that aims at achieving food security and diversification policy”.
He noted that the seven local government to benefit from the programme include Auyo, Buji, Dutse, Guri, Kiyawa, Kirikasamma and Taura local government areas where the beneficiary farmers would be supported with seedlings, Water pump machines, tube wells and fertilizer”, he stated.
