Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Overseas Affairs and Investment, Prof. Ademola Abass, on Wednesday announced the government’s plan to embark on a global campaign for more foreign investors soon.
Abass said, in Lagos, that the state, under its ‘Global Lagos’ project, would soon be visiting and telling international investors of the state’s investment opportunities.
Special Adviser said that the administration of Gov. Akinwumi Ambode was committed to making Lagos State an enviable investment destination state in Africa.
“Let us say that Gov. Akinwumi Ambode is really committed to making Lagos State an investment destination for local and international investors.
“He set up my office in May 2015, with the mandate of attracting more Foreign Direct Investment from the international community, to come and harness investment opportunities in the state.
“And in the months since 2015, Lagos State has attracted more foreign investment that it had attracted in the previous years. And we are still not there yet.
“To attract more foreign investors into the state, we would very soon be taking our investment campaigns directly to some key countries in the world,’’ he said.
Abass said that the government had come to the realisation that attracting foreign investments had to do with a systematic process of directly disseminating information about its investment opportunities.
The special adviser added that the initiative would enable the state to directly visit, and share information on its investment opportunities with countries interested in the state, but lacked information.
“We really want more and more foreign investors to know that Lagos State is open to more businesses and investment,’’ he added. (NAN)
