National Business and Technical Examinations Board has said of the total number of 48,842 candidates that sat for the November/December 2016 NABTEB examination, 21,476 candidates scored five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics representing 47.48%.

Registrar/Chief Executive, NABTEB, Prof. (Mrs.) Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe  disclosed this yesterday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the examination in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The Registrar said 33,365 candidates scored five credits and above with or without English Language and Mathematics representing 73.77% in the National Business Certificate/National Technical Certificate examinations while only 1,394  candidates were involved in examination malpractice.

She said a total of 49,850 candidates enrolled for the examinations in 1,803 centres but only 48,842 sat for the examinations.

She said though the body has made progress, it is still very far below expectation considering the nation’s quest for rapid technological development and the significant role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria.

She said for the nation to be technically advanced, both the national and state houses of assembly should legislate on the establishment of more modern and well equipped technical colleges in more local government areas in the country.

She said NABTEB activities are central to the actualization of the change agenda of the Nigerian government in the area of Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

She called for  concerted efforts by all stakeholders to stem the tide of youth restiveness and unemployment in the country by  promoting technical and vocational education and training.
