Six out of the eight lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 40-member Lagos State House of Assembly are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Though the planned defection has been kept under wraps, Assembly sources have confirmed that the decision to defect was an aftermath of months of discussion between APC leaders in the state and the PDP lawmakers.
It is believed that the lawmakers would likely announce their defection on the floor of the House before the end of the first quarter of the year.
The eight PDP members in the House are; Akeem Bello (Amuwo Odofin 2), Mosunmola Sangodara (Surulere 2), Dipo Olorunrinu (Amuwo Odofin 1), Victor Akande (Ojo 2),Akeem Shokunle (Oshodi/Isolo 1), Jude Idimogu (Oshodi/isolo 2), Dayo Famakinwa (Ajeromi Ifelodun 2) and Oluwa Fatai (Ajeromi Ifelodun 1).
Of the eight lawmakers, Olorunrinu and Idimogu were said not to have made up their minds to defect along with their colleagues despite the pressure allegedly being put on them by the House leadership.
When contacted, Idimogu said, “We are yet to defect and as far as I know, we are still members of the PDP even though our party is in crisis. If we want to defect, we will not do it secretly. It will be done on the floor of the House or through a press conference.”
Reacting to the development, the Lagos State PDP chairman, Moshood Salvador, who spoke to Daily Sun on phone described the reports as untrue, stating that the lawmakers had assured that no defection had taken place.
He said: “We heard the reports and when we reached out to the said lawmakers, they told us that nothing of such had happened.”
