A prosecution witness, who is also the Investing Police Officer (IPO), David Adeyi, in the charge of fraud leveled against Pastor Ayodele Oluwasina 47, has gave account of how the defendant allegedly perpetrated the crime.
Pastor Oluwasina, who is the founder of Triumphant Chapel of Faith, situated at 24, Dauda Lasisi, off Ishuti Road, Egan, in Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos, and his co-defendant, James Imuele, were docked before the State Magistrate’s Court, Yaba on three-count charge by the police. But they pleaded not guilty. The defendants were first arraigned before the court sometimes in 2007.
The police, in a three count-amended charge marked A/25b/2008, alleged that the cleric and the other defendant sometime in 2006, conspired among themselves and fraudulently obtained the sum of N3.5 million, from Waheed Ayinla Akande, under the pretence to supply him a solid mineral known as Wefromite.
They were also alleged to have stolen the mentioned amount, belonging to the complaint.
The offences, according to the police, are punishable under sections 516, 419 and 383(4) of the Criminal Code Cap. 32 Vol. 2 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.
At the resumed hearing of the trial before Magistrate Peter Ojo, the witness, led in evidence by the prosecutor, Inspector Romania Uniegbe, told the court that the pastor, during investigation, admitted collecting the sum from the victim and converted it to his personal use.
Besides, the witness also informed the court that proceed of the crime was spent on luxury items, which include car by the clergy.
The trial magistrate has fixed April 7 for cross-examination of the witness.
