Varsity don urges Enugu people to join hands with Ugwuanyi

From: Felix Ikem, Nsukka

The Dean, Faculty of Law, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Prof. Frank Asogwa,  has urged the people of the state to join hands in order to take the state to a greater heights.

Asogwa made the call, in Nsukka, on Monday, in an interview with Daily Sun, while reacting on the recent Appeal Court victory of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, over Senator Ayogu Eze.

The don said now that Appeal court has confirmed Ugwuanyi  as duly elected PDP candidate and governor of the state, Eze and his followers should  accept the judgment in good faith and join the governor in moving Enugu State to a greater height.

Eze, who was one of the PDP governorship aspirants in 2015, had gone to court to challenge the emergence of Ugwuanyi as PDP governorship candidate, as he claimed he was the one lawfully elected in a primary election.

According to Asogwa, “I am not surprised at Ugwuanyi’s victory at Appeal court as over 95 per cent delegates and residents voted for him in both PDP primary and governorship election in 2015.

“The governor’s victory in court is a victory to democracy because it reflected  the wishes of Enugu state people.

“Everybody in Enugu state is happy with the verdict of Appeal Court in that matter because the governor has overwhelming support of residents,” he said.

The dean urged Eze and his followers  to join hands in  developing Enugu state bearing in mind that if he is not governor of the state today he might be one tomorrow.

“Eze should remember that if he is not the governor of Enugu state today he may be that tomorrow.

“All hands must be on deck  in order to make the state best state in the federation.

“I know the governor has a large heart and is ready to carry everybody along so as to enable him to achieve his mission of taking the state to the next level,” he said.

The professor of law however said that, Eze had the right to appeal the judgment at Supreme court but advised him to allow the ‘sleeping dog to lie’ since it would amount to waist of time and money  as supreme court would upheld the judgment of Appeal court.

” To move the state forward aggrieved persons in Enugu state should sacrifice their personal  interest at the altar of state interest.

‘ Its in the benefit of the state for  the governor to be allowed to concentrate in providing residents with dividends of democracy rather than distracting his attention with court cases.

“The governor is performing well  as he is among few state governors in the country that has been paying salaries to civil servants every month as well as carrying out developmental projects in all 17 LGA of the state,” he said.
