ASUU Denies Complaining About Hike in Tuition Fees

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has distanced itself from reports making the rounds in which the Union is quoted to have condemned planned increment in tuition fees at universities across the country.

Chairman of ASUU’s University of Ibadan Chapter, Dr Deji Omole, who was said to have issued the supposed statement told newsmen on Wednesday that he neither issued such nor granted any interviews about a hike in tuition fees in 38 universities across the country.

Omole further described the reports as mischievous, devilish and a demonstration of ‘junk journalism.’

The university don stressed that he was never in Abuja and did not speak with any medium on the issue.

Omole noted that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as a responsible pro-public education and masses union must not be linked to independent investigations conducted on education in Nigeria to make it authentic.

In the same vein, authorities at the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), have dismissed media reports listing it among 38 Nigerian universities that recently increased their school fees,  describing the report as absolute falsehood.

Vanguard quotes the institution’s Head, Corporate Affairs, Tunde Olofintila, as stressing that ABUAD had not increased its school fees in the last two years.
