Venus Williams ’caused car crash that killed 78-year-old man

Tennis superstar Venus Williams has been blamed for a car accident that led to the death of a 78-year-old man, TMZ Sports reports.

According to Police reports, Williams’ SUV rammed another car at an intersection in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on June 9, sending the man into an ICU before he died 14 days later.

The driver of the other car – the wife of the victim – told cops she was approaching the intersection when Venus’ northbound SUV suddenly came rushing, leaving her with no time to stop.

It is understood that Jerome Barson suffered head trauma as a result and was taken to a hospital along with his wife who had broken bones and other injuries, but she survived.

The seven-time major winner told cops there was a traffic backup at the intersection which caused her to slow to a crawl, leaving her SUV exposed in the intersection.

But cops say Venus was at fault for the accident because she didn’t have right of way.

“[Venus] is at fault for violating the right of way of [the other driver],” police reports say.

The report however added that there was no evidence Venus was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or if she was distracted by an electronic device at the time of the crash. It is not yet clear what charges will be made against her.

Venus, 37, is presently preparing for Wimbledon where she’ll be hoping to add to her five titles at Centre Court.
