Mexican Boxer Gunned Down by Masked Men in Broad Daylight

Mexican boxer Ulises Hueto Elizalde was shot dead by masked gunmen after leaving his gym in Mexico City Thursday.

Super middleweight Elizalde, 33, had just finished a session at the gym and was making his way home when he met his brutal demise around 1pm local time.

Authorities have declared that his murder was gang-related but it remains unclear why Elizalde, known as ‘El Chispa’ (‘The Spark’), was targeted.

According to the Mirror, he was jumped upon by two masked attackers on a motorbike, who fired 12 shots at him before bolting from the scene.

Elizalde was left prone in a pool of his blood and it has since been confirmed that he was killed by four bullet wounds to the neck and two to the face.

Mexico’s professional boxing commission, Combox CDMX, has paid tribute to the boxer on their Facebook page.

Beneath a picture of a black ribbon, they wrote: “The CDMX joins the grief that seizes the family of boxer Ulysses “The Spark” Hueto Elizalde for his senseless death. We hope comfort arrives to their hearts soon. Rest in peace.”

Elizalde, who was licensed with CDMX, had two professional fights in his short career, losing both.

He lost his debut in December by dropping a narrow split decision to undefeated compatriot Mario Cazares over four rounds, and lost the rematch, on points again, in March.
