South African woman who’s alleged to be world’s OLDEST person dies at 134 (photos)

– She died on May 31 A South African woman who was said to be 134 years old has passed away.

Johanna Rametsi, from Stinkwater in Hammanskraal just outside Pretoria, passed away on May 31.

Family sources said she was born on January 1, 1883.

If proven, this would have made her the world’s oldest living person when she was still alive. Notably, she had a document from South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs confirming her date of birth.

Jeanette Ntimbane, Rametsi’s caretaker, told reporters: “She was my grandmother, my child, my teacher and everything to me. So although I am hurt that she is no longer with us today I want to celebrate her long life as she would have wanted.” Rametsi’s family and local community held a memorial service for her on Thursday, June 8.

Rametsi had a total of 16 children, 78 grandchildren and 247 great-grandchildren. Her funeral and burial will be held on Sunday, June 11. A Jamaican woman, Violet Moses Brown, is officially recognized as the world’s oldest living person at 117.
